The Royal New Zealand Air Force is celebrating its 80th Anniversary by showcasing its capability, personnel and skills with the 2017 Air Tattoo at RNZAF Base Ohakea.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force is extremely proud and excited to present the 2017 Air Tattoo to celebrate its 80th Anniversary.

With an event of this size we want to endeavour to make sure every one who attends has the best possible experience, so we have collated the information below to answer those niggling questions you may have.

Where can I purchase tickets?
Tickets are being sold by Ticketek and can be purchased online at

What is the price of a ticket?
Adult -$35, child 5-16 $10, child under 5 – Free

What age is a child’s ticket?
Children are classified as being between 5 and 16 years of age, Children aged 4 and under are free of charge but do still require a ticket.

I have had something come up can I change my ticket for the other day? Unfortunately no, there are a limited numbers of tickets available to each day please make your purchase selection carefully.

Pass Outs
Yes you will be able to pass out and re enter the venue, please ensure that you are scanned out when you exit. Please note that vehicles will be parked some distance from the entry points.

Corporate Hospitality
There are no hospitability packages for this event.

Group packages and booking
There are no group discounts for this event.

Can I purchase a ticket at the gate?
We expect that the event will sell out across both days so recommend pre purchasing your tickets from Ticketek.

I was told the tickets were $35 but I have had to pay more than that.
There are fees added to the face value of the ticket for the processing of the tickets depending on how you purchase them and how you have them delivered.

Venue Information

What can I bring on site with me?
The following items are prohibited:

  • Weapons or any item Management deems could be used as a weapon
  • Alcohol
  • Glass bottles
  • Illicit drugs
  • Sound amplifiers including loudhailers
  • Musical instruments (unless agreed to by the event promoter under agreed conditions)
  • Recording devices for commercial purposes
  • Dogs or other pets (see below)
  • Flares, fireworks, laser pointers
  • Drones or radio controlled cars or flying device
  • Skateboards, roller blades, scooters or bicycles
  • Signs or banners which are obscene, offensive or abusive
  • Any other item that organisers determine may cause injury or public nuisance or inconvenience to any other person.

We encourage you to bring:

  • Rugs
  • Picnics
  • Deck Chairs 
  • Sunscreen
  • Hats
  • Jackets

Can I bring my pram?
Yes. You are welcome to bring your pram with you but please be aware that a large portion of the venue is grass.

Can I bring alcohol with me to the event?
No, this is an alcohol free event.

Can I bring my dog/s or other animal?
No this is an animal free event apart from verifiable assistance dogs.

Will there be Cash Out on site?
There will be a cash-out facility provided on site, and vendors will have eftpos however we recommend if you are planning to buy food to bring cash with you. Previous events have overwhelmed the cellular network resulting in difficulty with the use of mobile eftpos. 

Can I smoke on site?
The airfield is a Smokefree area. There will be designated smoking areas setup where you will be able to smoke.

Show Information

What time is the show/event?
The Air Display will run from 10am until 4pm each day. The ground displays will be open from 8am – 5pm each day.

What time will the gates open?
Gates will open to the public from 7am each day, access to the carparks will be from 6am.

What planes will be on display and flying?
The proposed schedule of flights will not be known until closer to the event date and is subject to change watch this website and RNZAF Facebook for more information.

Will you be having a practice day?
There is no practice day scheduled.

Will there be a commentary? How do I hear it?
Yes, there will be a commentary that will be played on site but that can also be accessed via a FM Station that will be advertised on site.

Access Information

How can I get to the event?
THERE IS NO PARKING ON BASE FOR THE 2017 AIR TATTOO; Expect significant parking restrictions surrounding the event.

There is limited official car parking available, there will be significant parking restrictions (i.e. no parking within walking distance) and road closures in place to safely manage the event.
We encourage you to use the free Park and Ride buses as the easiest means of accessing the event.  

Official car parking is available for purchase at a cost of $15 + postage per vehicle note these passes will not be sent until January 2017. This car park is located between Pukenui and Tangimoana road and is the only Car Park where you can walk to the gate.

We recommend catching a bus from one of pick up points located at;
Manfeild in Feilding recommended for all travelling from Palmerston North, Feilding or South of the Base.
Bulls Polo Club accessed via SH1 recommended for traffic from New Plymouth, Whanganui.

Park and Ride sites will be the fastest way of transport with dedicated bus lanes. Both sites will open at 6am and the first bus will leave at approx. 6.30am.

Cars traveling to the air show are advised to follow the event signage and will be directed to a Park and Ride site or for those who purchased parking ensure you display the appropriate pass and you will directed to the correct location.

Non Commercial aircraft will not be permitted to land on the airfield we recommended contacting Feilding aerodrome or Whanganui airfield as they are the closest airfields. You will also need to arrange your own transport.

We recommend catching a bus from one of pick up points located at Bulls or Feilding as this will be the fastest way of transport with dedicated bus lanes and the closest drop off to the gate.  

Cars traveling to the air show with prepaid carpark vouchers are advised to follow the event signage and will be directed to a carpark.

Onsite carparks will open at 6am each day.

Yes you can bring your bicycle this will need to be kept at the entry gate. Please bring a lock so that you can secure your bike safely.

Can I park my vehicle overnight?
Cars are not permitted to be parked in the paddocks overnight. Carparks will close at approximately 7pm each night after the last vehicles are cleared.

I have a motor caravan can I park onsite and is there overnight parking available?
Motorcaravan Association are running an event which allows self-contained motor caravans to park overnight please contact the Motorcaravan Association for details on this.
Motorcaravans parked in the normal carparks will not be permitted to park overnight.

Are there special facilities for impaired mobility?
Wheelchair patrons can purchase event tickets from any Ticketek outlet. Most of the event can be accessed on tarmac. There is some grass area.
For Carpark passes for mobility impaired patrons please register with RNZAF via email on prior to the 15th Feb. Limited parking spaces are available close to the gates.

How will I know where to go?
There will be a full traffic plan directing you to carparks, Once you are out of your car follow the instructions of staff to either bus or walk to the entry gate. This will be well sign posted.

February is generally a warm time of year and the sun can burn, There will be sunscreen stations located around the ground but we encourage you to bring your own.

Drinking water will be for sale at most vendors and there will be a drinking station on site to refill your water bottles.

Children’s play area
Along with the numerous ground displays and air craft that are on display we will have a child’s play area including bouncy castles.
This area will host the parents’ room allowing for nappies to be changed and parents to feed children out of the sun.

Food intolerance: Will my special dietary requirements be catered for?
There will be a variety of food vendors at the event however we recommend bringing your own food if your dietary requirements are specific or very restricted.

I want to fly in for the weekend
Non Commercial aircraft will not be permitted to land on the airfield we recommended contacting Feilding Aerodrome or Whanganui airfield as they are the closest airfields.

Is there any accommodation available nearby for the weekend?
We recommend contacting the Palmerston North City i-SITE for accommodation options that are still available across the region.

First Aid on site & locations
There will be a number of first aid stations located around the venue.

Health & Safety
All of our contractors and exhibitors operate under the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 and hold health and safety as high importance in the delivery of the event. There is a designated H&S operator on site at all times.  We appreciate your help in keeping the event safe please ensure you report any incidents to the information tent.

Rain/ wet weather cancellation
Ticketek will only offer a refund or exchange of a ticket if an event is cancelled, rescheduled or significantly relocated by the Seller (and you cannot or do not wish to attend the rescheduled or relocated event), or to the extent otherwise required by law (including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993). You must apply for a refund within a reasonable time. Ticketek does not offer refunds or exchanges as a result of a change in your personal circumstances.

If an event is cancelled, rescheduled or significantly relocated by the Seller, to the fullest extent permitted by law all liability is limited to the amount for which the ticket was purchased (including any fees or charges). Proof of purchase may be required for any refund or exchange. To the fullest extent permitted by law neither Ticketek nor the Seller will be liable for any other losses incurred by you as a result of the cancellation, rescheduling or relocation of an event, including any travel and accommodation expenses.

Ticketek will only replace lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed tickets if the authenticity of the ticket can be verified, including proof of purchase, and if you give reasonable notice before the event. Ticketek may charge a reasonable fee for the replacement of tickets. Ticketek may not replace tickets where seating is unallocated (general admission tickets).

Variation to performances or events

The Seller reserves the right to add, withdraw, reschedule or substitute artists and/or vary advertised programs, prices, venues, seating arrangements (including ticket categories) and audience capacity.
