Warrant Officer of Air Force
Warrant Officer Mark Harwood
Warrant Officer (W/O) Harwood joined the Air Force in 1975 and spent the first 10 years in Woodbourne working in the Airframe Reconditioning Squadron, Number 1 Repair Depot (No 1 R D) on various RNZAF Aircraft.
Posted to Auckland and promoted to Sergeant in 1985, he worked in a number of maintenance support bays before being posted to 40 Squadron in 1988.
In 1996 as a Flight Sergeant, he was posted to the Engine Reconditioning Squadron until he was promoted to Warrant Officer in 1998.
As a Warrant Officer he has filled a wide range of roles:
- General Service Training School Squadron Warrant Officer
- East Timor Detachment Camp Warrant Officer
- No. 40 Squadron Warrant Officer
- Command Warrant Officer Maintenance Wing
- Flight Commander Logistics Manpower and Training Centre.
W/O Harwood has been based in Auckland since 2003. He was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in 1992 for service in the 1991/2 Gulf Conflict and later in his career, he was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of his work in coordinating No. 40 Squadron’s contribution to the Sumatra tsunami relief effort in 2004/5.
