// K9 ‘Recruits’ Military Meets Customs
The Expeditionary Support Squadron’s Air Security Military Working Dog (ASY MWD) Unit was recently hosted by New Zealand Custom’s Drug Search Dog Unit at Mangere, Auckland.

Sergeant Peter Barrass and his team were invited to observe a training course of three new drug dog ‘recruits’. The ASY MWD team, consisting of handlers Leading Aircraftsman Jeremy Drummond, Aircraftsman Vicky Morrison, and two handlers under training—AC Ari Burt and AC Dan Morton—were shown the early stages of training where three Labrador dogs were introduced to search for substances such as cannabis, ecstasy, and Contact NT (ephedrine).
The visit to Customs was an outstanding success for both organisations. It enabled both parties to trade ideas on training and capabilities, building up inter-agency relations for the future.
