// NZDF Supports Anzac Day Competition
The official launch of the National Bank Returned and Services Association (RSA) Cyril Bassett Victoria Cross (VC) Speech Competition was attended by Rear Admiral Tony Parr, Major General Rhys Jones, and Air Vice-Marshal Peter Stockwell late last year at Defence House.
The new prestigious national speech competition gives senior students the chance to win a trip to Gallipoli to attend the 2010 Anzac commemorations, while honouring the men and women who made sacrifices in service of New Zealand.
The speech competition will serve as a tribute to Cyril Bassett, VC, (1882–1983)—the only New Zealander at Gallipoli to be awarded the Victoria Cross, and a career-long staff member at the National Bank. “The RSA is pleased to honour both the deeds and the memory of Cyril Bassett VC, and to provide young New Zealanders with the opportunity to research and speak to an indelible aspect of our nation’s ANZAC heritage,” said RSA National President Robin Klitscher.
